SPECIAL OLYMPICS TORCH RUN

On Friday June 7, 2013, at 11:40 a.m., the Fountain Valley Police Department will participate in the Special Olympics Torch Run by carrying the torch through Fountain Valley on one leg of its journey. The torch will be passed from the Westminster Police Department to Fountain Valley Police Officers at the intersection of Magnolia and Edinger. The Fountain Valley Police Department will carry the torch through Fountain Valley and deliver it to the Huntington Beach Police Department at Talbert and Beach Boulevard. The torch will then continue on its way to California State University Long Beach for the lighting of the "Flame of Hope," which marks the beginning of the summer games.

The Special Olympics opening ceremonies will take place at California State University Long Beach on June 8, 2013. The ceremonies will commence with the lighting of the "Flame of Hope" from the Special Olympics torch. The games will take place on June 8 and conclude on June 9, 2013. More than 1,100 athletes are expected to participate.

The Torch Run is an annual event requiring more than 3,500 runners from over 300 police agencies to carry the Special Olympics torch. All Department personnel who are participating in this run are donating their time.
