National Prescription Drug Take Back Day scheduled for October 26, 2013

Drug abuse continues to be a problem that impacts young and old alike. Studies show that the majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet. In an effort to address this issue, DEA, in conjunction with state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the United States conducts National Prescription Drug Take Back Days.

The goal of this program is to allow citizens to deliver all of their unused, unwanted or expired medications to law enforcement officials who can, in turn, dispose of these controlled substances in a secure and non-hazardous manner, potentially saving lives and protecting the ecosystem.

The next Drug Take Back Day is scheduled for October 26, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The Fountain Valley Police Department, located at 10200 Slater Avenue, Fountain Valley, will serve as one of the collection points.
