Vehicle Pursuit and Apprehension

On July 2, 2012 at 2:50 pm the Fountain Valley Police Department responded to a call of suspicious circumstances at 17330 Brookhurst. The reporting party said there was a vehicle at that location with a hose connected to the vehicle in an unusual manner. The reporting party described the suspicious vehicle as a Chevy Avalanche and said it was occupied by a female adult. Officers arrived on scene at saw the vehicle leave southbound on Brookhurst. Officers attempted a vehicle stop but the Avalanche failed to yield. The Avalanche entered the northbound 405 freeway from Brookhurst and still failed to yield. As a result officers pursued the Avalanche north on the 405 freeway. The Fountain Valley Police Department believed the safety of the driver of the Avalanche was in jeopardy as well as the safety of others whom would come into contact with her, therefore officers continued to pursue. We requested the assistance from the Huntington Beach Police Department Air Bureau. HB1 (HBPD Helicopter) joined the pursuit a short time later. As the pursuit continued north on the 405 freeway the Fountain Valley Police Department asked the California Highway Patrol to assume the pursuit, which they did. FVPD officers continued to monitor the pursuit until it concluded in Culver City. The female driver of the Avalanche was taken into custody by the CHP and turned over to FVPD. The CHP is handling traffic collision reports that occurred during the course of the pursuit. The Fountain Valley Police Department is investigating the reason for her flight as well as the impairment that may have been present during the course of her flight. Our investigation is ongoing and no conclusions have been made at this time. The driver was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The name of the female driver is not being released due to medical issues related to the ongoing investigation.
