Strong Arm Robbery - Suspects Arrested

At approximately 10:49 AM, Monday, October 20, 2008, Fountain Valley police officers responded to a robbery that had just occurred on Newhope St., south of Edinger.

The victim, an 87 year old female resident of Fountain Valley was walking northbound on Newhope Street to catch a bus at Edinger to go shopping. She was approached by two young males who were walking in the opposite direction. As the subjects approached her, they blocked her way by repeatedly stepping in her way as she tried to pass while verbally harassing her. She was allowed to pass and continued on her way. Moments later she was knocked to the sidewalk and one of the suspects struggled for her purse which was ripped from her. The suspects fled Northbound on Newhope and east into the residential tract south of Edinger.

Several witnesses reported the incident to FVPD dispatch and led officers to a location the suspects were last seen. Approximately 33 minutes later two male juveniles, 16 and 17 years of age, from Santa Ana were taken into custody in the 16200 block of Sierra St. as they attempted to conceal themselves in a residential backyard. The suspects were positively identified at the scene by witnesses and subsequently booked at Orange County Juvenile Hall on felony robbery and elder abuse charges.

The 87 year old victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of cuts, abrasions and a head injury. She is expected to be released later this date. Her identity and place of residence are being withheld at this time.
