SPECIAL OLYMPICS TORCH RUN | |
| On Friday June 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. the Fountain Valley Police Department will participate in the Special Olympics Torch Run by carrying the Torch through Fountain Valley on one leg of it’s journey. The Torch will be passed from the Westminster Police Department to Fountain Valley Police Officers and civilian personnel at the intersection of Magnolia and Edinger. The Fountain Valley Police Department will carry the Torch through Fountain Valley and deliver it to the Huntington Beach Police Department at Talbert and Beach Boulevard. The Torch will then continue on its’way to the California State University at Long Beach campus for the lighting of the “Flame of Hope”, which marks the beginning of the summer games. The Special Olympics opening ceremonies will take place at California State University at Long Beach on June 12, 2009. The ceremonies will be officially started with the lighting of the “Flame of Hope” from the Special Olympics Torch. These games start on June 12, 2009, and will continue for 3 days. More than 1,500 athletes are expected to participate. The Torch Run is an annual event requiring more than 3,500 runners from over 300 police agencies to carry the Special Olympics Torch. All department personnel who are participating in this run are donating their time. | |
