ELDER ABUSE / ATTEMPTED MURDER ARREST | |
| At approximately 3:38 PM, Saturday, June 20th, Fountain Valley Police Department patrol officers responded to the 10400 block of Calle Madero Cir. regarding a medical aid call. Upon arrival responding officers contacted a middle age, white male on the sidewalk who appeared to be agitated. Bystanders identified him as the person requesting assistance from a neighbor. The subject, later identified as Robert L. Char, 48, of Fountain Valley, was uncooperative with officers and was agitated and combative. Officers restrained Char and noticed he had blood spatter on his clothes and some minor injuries to his arms and hands. During initial questioning while waiting for paramedics Char told officers that he had been in a fight with his mother and believed he killed her. Officers immediately checked the residence identified as Char’s and located an elderly female on the floor in a semi-conscious condition. She had serious injuries to her head, face and body. She was treated at the scene and transported to an area hospital where she was listed in critical condition and underwent surgery for her injuries. The woman was later identified as Joyce M. Char, 74, of Fountain Valley. Detectives believe she was beaten with a shovel by Robert Char following a verbal dispute. Robert Char was booked at Orange County Jail on charges of Attempted Murder and felony Elder Abuse. On Monday, June 22, 2009 the Orange County District Attorneys office charged Mr. Char with Attempted Murder, Elder Abuse and Resisting Arrest. He is being held on $500,000 bail. The investigation is ongoing. | |
