GUILTY PLEA TO 2005 MURDER ATTEMPT | |
| On Monday 11/30/09, Richard Bernard Collins, 43, Hawthorne, plead guilty to Attempted Murder along with enhancements for the use of a firearm and causing great bodily harm. He was sentenced to a total of 30 years in state prison on the three charges. Collins had been in custody since July 2006, charged with a shooting in the 11800 block of Violet Cir. in Fountain Valley on July 23, 2005. On that date Linh Hoang Nguyen was shot multiple times in the driveway of his residence. None of his wounds were life threatening and Nguyen recovered. Two associates of Collins, Nathan Isaiah Price, 25, Perris, and Johnny Jordan Thompson, 35, Moreno Valley, have plead guilty to similar charges in the case and will be sentenced on 12/11/2009. Investigators theorize that the shooting was the result of a botched murder for hire plot, although there was insufficient evidence to charge anyone other than those who carried out the attack on Nguyen. | |
