The canine team is currently assigned to the Midnight shift and also on 24 hour call if the need arises.

The canine team underwent extensive training prior to being assigned to patrol. The team continues with training on a weekly basis. The team is trained to locate suspects hidden in buildings, houses, cars and thick bushes or brush. They are also very capable of chasing down fleeing felons if the need arises.  The team is a very effective deterrent at fights, riots and similar situations. K9 Renzo has also been cross trained as a narcotic detection dog, and will have the ability to locate concealed narcotics.

The canine is not trained to be vicious. They are social dogs and are very friendly with children and adults (but don't approach one without asking the handler first.).  K9 Renzo lives at home with Officer Link and his family and enjoys a healthy family atmosphere at home. Handlers and canines build very strong bonds during their years of working together. Most police canines continue to live with their handlers even after retirement.
