Both canine teams are currently assigned to the Midnight shift on opposite days on, giving 7 day a week coverage. Both teams are also on 24 hour call if the need arises.

The two canine teams underwent extensive training prior to being assigned to patrol. Both teams continue with training on a weekly basis. The two canines are trained to locate suspects hidden in buildings, houses, cars and thick bushes or brush. They are also very capable of chasing down fleeing felons if the need arises.  Both teams are very effective deterrents at fights, riots and similar situations. Both teams are currently being  cross trained as narcotic detection dogs, and will have the ability to locate concealed narcotics.

Neither canine is trained to be vicious. They are social dogs and are very friendly with children and adults (but don't approach one without asking the handler first.).  Both dogs live with their handlers and the handler's families and enjoy a healthy family atmosphere at home. Handlers and canines build very strong bonds during their years of working together. Most police canines continue to live with their handlers even after retirement.
